Dance Class

It’s Time for Dance!!!

I am very excited to be teaching a dance class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 beginning this fall at Playhouse Academy!  Anyone age 2 to 4 is welcome to try the class.  The kids will love it!

The Class

The class will be one hour long.  We will spend about 10 minutes stretching followed by 20 minutes learning ballet steps and a ballet routine.  This includes skipping, arm and leg positions, leaping, turning and posture.  Then we will change shoes and spend the remainder of the hour working on tap steps and a tap routine.  In tap, we focus on rhythm and sound, faster and larger arm movements, and showmanship.  I ALWAYS encourage parents to come in for the last 5 minutes so you can see what we’ve been working on that day in class.

What the Dancers Will Learn

Specifically, I try to focus on having fun (not to be confused with playing around) and teaching them movements which will enhance their coordination and gross motor skills, preparing them for dance, sports, and other physical activities in their futures.  There will be a variety of dance steps for them to learn, but the point at this age is to learn the concepts, expose them to creative movements and have a great time doing it!

Performance Opportunities

We will do a small Holiday show for our family and friends in the month of December at Playhouse Academy.  This will be a great opportunity for them to show off what they’ve learned and feel a sense of accomplishment for their efforts in class.  At the end of the school year, we will do another performance around Pre-K Graduation time.  Once we’ve gotten started, I’ll be contacting the dance parents as a group to discuss the formality and costuming of these shows.

My Background

In a nutshell, my parents put me in my first dance class (just like this one) at 2 years old and I never quit.  I love it more than anything else I have ever done and intend to dance for the rest of my life.  I have been teaching dance since 1996 at studios in Fort Worth, Plano and Arlington.  I’ve directed the TCU Showgirls, as well as choreographed for numerous Drill Teams and Dance Teams around the Metroplex.  I am now an instructor at Momentum Dance Studio, located on I-20 and Little Road in South Arlington.  I am a graduate of TCU with a degree in Business (not dance.) My husband, Jason, and I have two daughters, Glorianne (age 3) and Gabrielle (age 1.)   I am very excited to have this opportunity to share dance with your children!

What the Dancers Will Need

In a studio setting, you would be asked to purchase leotards and tights for class.  But since the kids are coming straight to me from a day of school, they can wear play clothes that they are comfortable to move in.  This can include flexible shorts, pants and skirts.  The only thing I would discourage would be tight-fitting jeans that may restrict their movement.  But you DO need to purchase Ballet and Tap shoes (Pink Ballet for Girls, Black Ballet for Boys.)  You can find the shoes at Winner’s All Dancewear (6333 Camp Bowie, in the Village at Camp Bowie Shopping Center) or at The Dance Shop (on the corner of Forest Park and Park Hill.)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or text me at 817-939-6259 or email me at  I look forward to meeting you all this year and sharing dance with your children!
